SHOWERS OF BLESSING

SHOWERS OF BLESSING

I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.
Ezekiel 34:26

I had an unusual experience happen to me several years ago during a powerful season of outpouring of the Spirit at our church. I would often lay on the floor to “soak” in the presence of The Lord during the worship or during the altar ministry time. One night, I experienced what some would call a dream. I was in a trance like state and I saw flood waters filling up the city of New Orleans. This event actually happened before Hurricane Katrina hit our city but there was no fear or foreboding associated with the dream. It was more of a joyful anticipation of things to come. We were in an outpouring at that time but this experience seemed to speak of another greater visitation at a future date. Peter preached about times of visitation that would come from the presence of The Lord, I think there are greater outpourings ahead of us in the city of New Orleans. Here is something Charles Spurgeon said about showers of blessing.

“Here is sovereign mercy-I will give them the shower in its season. Is it not sovereign, divine mercy?-for who can say, I will give them showers, except God? There is only one voice which can speak to the clouds, and bid them beget the rain. Who sendeth down the rain upon the earth? Who scattereth the showers upon the green herb? Do not I, the Lord? So grace is the gift of God, and is not to be created by man. It is also needed grace. What would the ground do without showers? You may break the clods, you may sow your seeds, but what can you do without the rain? As absolutely needful is the divine blessing. In vain you labour, until God the plenteous shower bestows, and sends salvation down. Then, it is plenteous grace. I will send them showers. It does not say, I will send them drops, but showers. So it is with grace. If God gives a blessing, he usually gives it in such a measure that there is not room enough to receive it. Plenteous grace!”

We know a little about showers here in Southeast Louisiana. Our spring and summer showers can dump several inches of rain in a matter of a couple of hours. You can get stuck in one of these downpours and the whole worlds changes in a matter of minutes. The Lord controls these sudden outbursts of rain. In the same way He sends His Holy Spirit showers sometimes without warning. Suddenly, the atmosphere in the church services change. Suddenly, God comes down and changes the whole world. Maybe you feel a little dry today. Maybe you are in need of a good shower. Don’t be surprised if the atmosphere suddenly changes and you could find yourself in one of His Holy Spirit deluges.

  2. I have often told my brother that for being perfect, God sure is a messy pourer! It is my personal experience that when God is pouring Himself out in me and on me I reach a point when I can stands no more. (Popeye) He just keeps on pouring and whatever He is pouring out is overflowing out of me and splashing on everyone around me. I am persuaded He not a messy pourer but extravagant, lavish and any other word or phrase that communicates over the top or good just is not good enough!
He had me at “Forgiven, I love you!” Oh, but that was just the beginning! All eternity is not long enough to sing Your praises Father; thanks for allowing me to start now!

    empty hands raised high
P.S. time for a praise break!!!
