CHRIST ALONE

John 6:68 ¶ But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

Man is stuck in quite a dilemma. He is in a fallen state, separated from God, and headed toward a Christ-less eternity. On top of that, most are not even aware of their fallen condition. They spend their lives trying to mask it, medicate it, improve it, or absolve it. The problem is, Christ alone can solve our pathetic state. There are no accomplishments or good deeds that can neutralize our sinful state. Drugs and alcohol can mask the symptoms but only add to the problems. The modern “best life now” type of church tries to fix it with christian empowerment slogans or self help teachings, that may make you feel good about yourself but just vaccinates you from the real solution. There is also the religious solutions; it could be fasting, or praying, or even serving the poor. No matter how “good” the works may be they can never fix the problem. The problem is sin and the only solution is a Savior. Christ alone can bring us to God, deliver us from our fallen condition, and fill our hearts with joy and total satisfaction found only in Him. Here is how Jonathan Edwards describes salvation by Christ alone.

“It was by Christ that eternal life has been communicated from the foundation of the world. It was by Christ that holy men in the old world, before the flood, received life; ’twas by faith in him that Enoch was translated; ’twas by the reception of Christ that Abraham received eternal life; ’twas [by] faith in him Moses received eternal happiness, that faith whereby he esteemed the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt. It was by Christ and him alone that Job, Samuel, David, and the prophets were saved; he is the lamb slain from the foundation of the world, in whose blood the godly have been washed and with whose righteousness they have been clothed—never ever have been or ever will be saved any other way to the end of this world. There is none else can communicate eternal life to us, or deliver us from eternal death. We cannot obtain it by ourselves. Our own strength, our own righteousness, our own suffering, are all good for nothing to procure this life we speak of. If we make our ways never so clean, if we worship God never so well, if we sacrifice thousands of rams and ten thousands of rivers of oil, yea, if man should sacrifice the fruit of his body for the sin of his soul, it is nothing.”

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is an unveiling Of Christ and His plan of salvation by grace alone through faith alone. There is no other escape from the dilemma that all of us are in.
If Christ is in your heart, turn your heart toward Him. Take advantage of His great love that He has shone to us. He has made joy unspeakable available to us today, let’s enjoy God as if our life depended on it.
