SALVATION AND THE POWER OF GOD

1Pet. 1:5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

‘Tis by God’s power also that we are preserved in a state of grace; 1 Peter 1:5

Salvation is an incredible display of the power of God. Creation gives us a glimpse into the greatness of His power. Think about the power generated by the sun. It is heating and powering the earth. Scientists say the sun can continue on in the same way for millions of years. There are billions of other suns, or stars, that also are generating similar power in their corner of the universe. Our discovery of atomic power from the splitting of atoms gives us an idea of the power of a God in creation itself.
The Lord has also displayed His mighty power in delivering us from the power of sin. If you are a Christian, you were born again by the power of God seen in the resurrection of Christ. 1Pet. 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” It was the power of God that broke the chains of sin that held us in captivity. Eph. 1:19 “and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power.”
Jonathan Edwards spoke about the power of God displayed in the work of salvation.

“Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.” As grace is at first from God, so ’tis continually from him, and is maintained by him, as much as light in the atmosphere is all day long from the sun, as well as at first dawning, or at sunrising.

Men are dependent on the power of God for every exercise of grace, and for carrying on the work of grace in the heart, for the subduing of sin and corruption, and increasing holy principles, and enabling to bring forth fruit in good works, and at last bringing grace to its perfection, in making the soul completely amiable in Christ’s glorious likeness, and filling of it with satisfying joy and blessedness; and for the raising of the body to life, and to such a perfect state, that it shall be suitable for an habitation and organ for a soul so perfected and blessed. These are the most glorious effects of the power of God that are seen in the series of God’s acts with respect to the creatures.”

The safest place in all the world is in the hand of God. Jesus said no one could pluck us from His hand. In His hand, the place of intimacy with God, His mighty power is displayed. Here we are free from our addictions and lusts. Here we are empowered to actually live a different kind of life, a life generated and empowered by God’s omnipotence. It’s in the place of God’s power that we actually move from the realm of duty to the realm of delight. When the Christian life is our duty, the responcibility to perform falls on us. When we experience the power of God in us it is a whole different story. Christ in us; living in us, praying through us, loving through us, this is the place of joyful participation with the mighty power of God.
