ABSENT FROM THE BODY

2 Cor. 5:8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
I recently had the privilege of officiating at a funeral of the father of a member of our congregation. The man was a believer which always makes my job a whole lot easier. I was allowed the privilege that day of letting my mind wander to the beauty and majesty of our future in heaven and do my best to make it as inviting as possible to the attendees of the funeral that morning. Heaven is a whole lot more than mansions and golden streets and family reunions, as Jonathan Edwards said, HEAVEN IS A WORLD OF LOVE. It is a different kind of love than you may be familiar with, it is a divine, supernatural love that is rooted in the relationship of the Father and the Son. Actually, it is Christ Himself that makes heaven such an enticing place. Here are some of Edwards words about that place we hope to be in soon.
“We can’t continue always in these earthly tabernacles: they are very frail, and will soon decay, and fall; and are continually liable to be overthrown, by innumerable means: our souls must soon leave them, and go into the eternal world. O how infinitely great will the privilege and happiness of such be, who at that time shall go to be with Christ in his glory, in the manner that has been represented!
…the privilege of being with Christ in heaven, where he sits on the right hand of God, in the glory of the King and God of angels, and of the whole universe, shining forth as the great light, the bright sun of that world of glory, there to dwell in the full, constant and everlasting view of his beauty and brightness, there most freely and intimately to converse with him, and fully to enjoy his love, as his friends and spouse, there to have fellowship with him in the infinite pleasure and joy he has in the enjoyment of his Father, there to sit with him on his throne, and reign with him in the possession of all things, and partake with him in the joy and glory of his victory over his enemies, and the advancement of his in the world…”
I can’t wait! Honestly, I have a growing joy and anticipation and a fear at the same time. I wonder what that great day will begin like? I hope to see you there!

  2. Come Quickly Lord Jesus! I ask God , very often, “Father, just lean over and TELL YOUR SON – it is TIME, GO GET YOUR BRIDE !!” Listening for the TRUMPET !!! I was reading in Haggai today where the children of Israel “got to the place” where they were making their own homes beautiful and comfortable, but neglecting the building of the TEMPLE. Keep UP THE MISSIONS AND GIVING AND SOWING FOR SOULS – I don’t want Victory to SLACK OFF FROM PREPARING FOR THE ETERNAL KINGDOM OF GOD !!!
