SHINING FACES

Ex. 34:29 ¶ When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God.

What a picture that must have been, Moses coming down from Sinai with the words that would change civilization. These Ten Commandments became the foundation of not only the nation of Israel, it also was the building block of the entirety of western civilization. From this day Moses began to put a veil over his face so that the people could not look upon the face of Moses. This veil reminded mankind that he was a sinner separated from God. Not until Christ came was this veil removed. Today, we can look upon the glory of the Lord without a veil, we can gaze upon His glory. Here is how Paul describes it.
2Cor. 3:18 “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the

Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of

glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
So now we can behold the glory of the Lord. We look upon Him in His written and preached word, in the person of Jesus Christ, and in our own changed lives. Here are some thoughts from Adam Clarke on this verse.
“So, by earnestly contemplating the Gospel of Jesus, and believing on him who is its Author, the soul becomes illuminated with his Divine splendor, for this sacred mirror reflects back on the believing soul the image of Him whose perfections it exhibits; and thus we see the glorious form after which our minds are to be fashioned; and by believing and receiving the influence of his Spirit, our form is changed into the same image, which we behold there; and this is the image of God, lost by our fall, and now recovered and restored by Jesus Christ: for the shining of the face of God upon us, i. e. approbation, through Christ, is the cause of our transformation into the Divine image.”
So we don’t have a veil blocking us from the shining face of Moses or of the Glory of God seen in the face of Jesus. We can look upon His face and every time we do we are transformed to be more and more like Him.
